How do you promote wellness and good health beyond the usual emphasis on physical health and from a group rather than individual focus? How many of us accomplish our goals entirely on our own? Where do we learn to resolve conflict, deal with stress or support a distressed colleague with care and compassion without enabling debilitating behavior? My work with Social Media Technologies in Prevention and Learning Chi is about learning resulting in living a connected, engaged and energized life so it makes perfect sense to learn more about the work and perspective of Dr. Joel Bennett, author, researcher and consultant. Joel's work focuses on employee well-being, organizational health and stress, workplace culture and employee training. He has worked in the healthcare industry, hosptality industry, with federal and local government agencies as well as community and academic organizations. I asked Joel to join me for this podcast to talk about his initial substance abuse prevention work on Team Awareness, an NREPP recognized prevention program. He offers research insights and thinks out-loud about the ways and methods involved in the program that have allowed it to be adapted successfully to organizations across the spectrum. He describes how the approach creates much deeper change in organizations, well beyond substance abuse (although that outcomes remains consistent). His stories, insights and discussion of challenges is engaging and he offers a variety or tools and resources via the website, Organizational Wellness. Joel does a significant amount of training including a new online training in Team Awareness. For more information visit the website or phone 817-921-4260. You can also find Joel on Facebook hosting the We in Wellness Cause. |
